MACOMB, IL -- To assist with a decrease in appropriated funding for Tri States Public Radio (TSPR) at Western Illinois University, the Western Illinois University Foundation is partnering with the University to provide additional non-appropriated funding for TSPR for the current fiscal year.

According to Vice President for Advancement and Public Services and Executive Officer of the WIU Foundation Brad Bainter, the WIU Foundation Executive Board recently approved a contribution of $25,000. In addition, Western's University Marketing also entered into a $25,000 sponsorship agreement with Tri States Radio, bringing total support to $50,000 for FY19.

"President Thomas had asked me to look for ways my division could assist Tri States Radio this year, and I was happy to try to find a way to provide some assistance to TSPR because of the professional conduct displayed by Tri States Director of Development Sharon Faust when the news broke that appropriated funding had been eliminated," Bainter explained. "She has remained professional and cordial during a time when emotions have run very high."

In addition, the Foundation and Development Office has also provided additional support to further research the Tri States donor base for those individuals who may have the capacity to make substantial contributions to the radio station, as well as research for foundations that may provide funding support for public radio.

"I strongly believe that when facing adversity, one should look to build support from all corners to overcome obstacles," Bainter added. "The Foundation and Marketing will do its part to provide a measure of support for TSPR."

While TSPR's appropriated funding, totaling approximately $450,000, will be eliminated effective March 1, 2019, the University will continue to provide facilities, utilities and janitorial services for TSPR, at no cost as it has for many years, and the WIU Foundation will continue to provide accounting services and the station's 501(c)3 status, at no cost to the radio station.

Donations for TSPR can be made directly to the WIU Foundation, or through the station's website at tspr.org.
