MACOMB, IL -- The Western Illinois University and Macomb communities are invited to attend the 14th annual Big Picture event Friday, Sept. 14, in conjunction with the LGBTQA picnic on the Macomb WIU campus. The Big Picture is held each year as a show of support for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students, faculty, staff and community members.

The Big Picture event will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the University Union terrace (located at the back ground entrance of the Union), with the formal picture being taken promptly at 4:45 p.m. All members or allies of the LGBTQA community, including family and friends, are invited to take part in the photograph. The LGBTQA/Unity picnic, which is also open to the campus community, will be held beginning at 4:45 p.m. at the Union plaza.

Unity, the student organization for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, and asexual (LGBTQA) community on the Macomb campus, hosts several events each year to raise awareness. Western's University Committee on Sexual Orientation, and Gender Identity and Expression (UCOSOGIE) has been raising awareness on campus and providing support for 30 years, with a mission to provide support, advocacy and education to the WIU community regarding issues impacting the lives of the LGBT population.

During the 2018-19 academic year, numerous programs and events will be sponsored by UCOSOGIE, the LGBTQA Resource Center, and Unity, from Camp Out! to celebrate National Coming Out Day Oct. 4-5 to Trans Week in late November and Lavender Graduation in early May. To stay updated on current events, visit the LGBTQA Resource Center Facebook page.

Questions can be directed to the LGBTQA Resource Center at lgbtqa@wiu.edu or (309) 298-4004 or to UNITY at unity@wiu.edu or (309) 298-3203.
