WIU Collegiate Scholars Chapter Again Recognized as a Certified Gold Star Chapter

MACOMB, IL – For the second year in a row, the Western Illinois University chapter of The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) has been recognized as a Certified Gold Star Chapter, this time for the 2017-18 academic year.

NSCS is a national, not-for-profit, honor society that recognizes undergraduate students who excel academically during their first and second year of college. Nationally, the organization offers $1 million in scholarships, awards and chapter support, as well as leadership and service opportunities.
 
"Western's chapter of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars makes numerous contributions to the University and Macomb communities through service activities and programming," said faculty advisor and WIU Department of History Chair Jennifer McNabb. "I am honored to serve as the advisor for such an outstanding group of high-achieving student leaders."

The Certified Gold Star Chapter certification recognizes the work the WIU chapter has put into developing its program and its commitment to the ideals of NSCS. There are 320 chapters throughout the United States, and Gold Star chapters are recognized as leaders in implementing, engaging, student-centered events on campus and in the community.

"We are so happy to receive certified gold status again for Western's NSCS chapter," said chapter president Harley Davidson, a junior forensic chemistry major from Edwardsville, IL. "In the future, we will be working on achieving platinum status and making NSCS and Western proud."
 
To be invited into NSCS, students must rank in the top 20 percent of their class and have a grade point average of 3.4 or above.
