MACOMB, IL – A group of alumni from Western Illinois University's Department of History will participate in a panel discussion to talk about their career successes at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 11 in Morgan Hall, room 101A.

The professional development event was organized by the Associated Students of History and Phi Alpha Theta, the history honor society, and will focus on the value of a degree in history in the job market and the workplace.

The department will also live stream the panel discussion through its Facebook page at facebook.com/wiuhistory/.

"The department is tremendously proud of the academic and career successes of WIU history alumni, and I am delighted to welcome this group of accomplished professionals back to campus for the 2018 'History at Work' panel," said Department of History Chair Jennifer McNabb. "This annual event offers a valuable opportunity for current history students to learn about the many ways our graduates have achieved career success by drawing on the historical content and skills they acquired during their time at WIU."

Panelists for the event include Nick Atwood, a 2009 graduate, who is a staff attorney for the Office of the Illinois State Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor; Adam Bednar, a 2009 graduate, who is assistant director of content marketing at TMP Worldwide; Kirsten Belisle, a 2016 and 2017 graduate, who is collections manager for the Dubois Museum and Wind River Historical Center; Andy O'Connor, a 2003 and 2007 graduate, who is a K-12 account executive with Northern Illinois, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt; and Samantha Rocknowski, a 2010 graduate, who is a teacher at Kankakee High School.
