MACOMB, IL – The annual "Stuff the Bus, Get Off Your Cans" food drive will be held from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 11.

A bus will be parked in Sherman Circle from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. to hold donation drop-offs. Donations will be sorted at the Sherman Circle location through the day, then delivered to the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry at Macomb's First Presbyterian Church at 5 p.m. April 11. Donations will also be delivered to the Western Illinois Regional Council (WIRC) Community Action Agency.

Also on April 11, tables will be set up outside Walmart, Hy-Vee and County Market from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Jackson Street Market will collect donations from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Volunteers will work two-hour shifts at the tables, asking for donations. The campaign will also have volunteers on campus to collect donations from the variety of departments where donation boxes are placed.

Another component of the drive is "Spring into Action," from Monday-Thursday, April 2-5. During this event, 36 volunteer groups will be assigned sections of Macomb, and they will place a bag with a note attached to every house, informing residents about the event and encouraging them to donate.

Saturday, April 7, the same volunteers will return to assigned sections to collect any donations provided by local residents.

Feed the Hungry Games is another related event that will take place April 2-5. This competition, between the residence halls, will have purple donation bins placed at each dining center on campus, including, Thompson, Corbin-Olson, Bayliss-Henninger, Tanner, Lincoln-Washington and Grote.

The bins will be arranged by residential floor in each residence hall, and the floor with the most donations is eligible to win a pizza party. There is also a donation bin in front of the Rocky C-Store in the University Union.

In addition, Buffalo Wild Wings will host a fundraising event, sponsoring specialized coupons for the cause, from 4-10 p.m. Monday, April 9, with 15 percent of the proceeds going to the Loaves and Fishes food pantry. Those who would like to participate must have the required coupon with them, either printed out or downloaded electronically.

Since 2008, the local food drive has collected more than 100,000 pounds of food, which has, in turn, been given to local food pantries.
