Myers Named Chair of WIU Department of Art

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University Art Professor Kat Myers has been named chair of the University's art department, effective Jan. 1.

Myers has served as interim department chair since July.

"It is a pleasure to be given the opportunity to serve as a leader for the wonderfully vibrant and creative group of faculty and students that are the WIU Department of Art," said Myers.

After coming to Western in 1999, Myers taught courses in design, drawing, sculpture, metalsmithing and jewelry design. Prior to coming to WIU, Myers taught at Miami University in Ohio.

Myers received her bachelor of fine arts and Master of Arts degrees from Ball State University in Indiana, focusing on graphic design, metalsmithing and jewelry design. She received her master of fine arts (MFA) degree from Miami University in Ohio.

Throughout her career at Western, Myers has served on numerous departmental and University committees. She received the WIU College of Fine Arts and Communication Outstanding Service Award in 2011 and is a member of numerous professional and academic associations, including the College Art Association and the Society of North American Goldsmiths.

In addition to her academic work, Myers' artwork has been featured in countless local, regional and national exhibitions and festivals and in public and private art collections.
