Downin Celebration of Life Set

MACOMB, IL – A celebration of life for William (Bill) Charles Downin, assistant superintendent of Building Maintenance at Western Illinois University, will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3 in the University Union Grand Ballroom. The family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. in the Union Brattain Lounge prior to the celebration of life. Downin, 61, passed away Dec. 24 in Springfield.

He joined WIU Facilities Management (formerly known as the Physical Plant) in August 2010. Previously, he worked for Fayhee Implement Company in Macomb and for Laverdiere Construction Company, building some of the first houses in Woodland Estates in Macomb. Before working at WIU, Downin spent the bulk of his career working as a self-employed contractor.

Downin volunteered with the Boy Scout Troop 101, with his son Grant and the other local scouts. He was also an avid supporter of the VIT Schools and the South Fulton Rebels.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila, children Melissa (and Patrick) Pokorny and Grant Downin; his mother, Charlotte; his siblings, Julie (and Rob) Derry, Chuck (and Maria) Downin, and David (and Judy) Downin; and five nephews and eight nieces.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Table Grove State Bank: Boy Scout Camp Scholarship, Table Grove State Bank: Building Trades Scholarship; or Table Grove State Bank: Medical Profession Scholarship.
