BOT to Act on FY19 Budget

MACOMB, IL -- The Western Illinois University Board of Trustees will consider the Fiscal Year 2019 appropriated operating budget and capital budget recommendations to be presented to state governance, as well as the FY18 All Funds Budget, at the Friday, Sept. 29 Board meeting in the University Union Capitol Rooms on the Macomb campus.

The WIU Board's open meeting will begin at 8 a.m. Friday. A scheduled closed session, in accordance with the provisions of the Open Meetings Act, will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28 in the Corbin-Olson e-classroom.

A recommended FY19 appropriated operating budget increase of $15.6 million will be presented to Western's BOT for consideration. This recommendation is part of WIU's annual budget process and requests for state funding for salary and cost increases, restoration of budget reductions, student financial aid, deferred maintenance, Quad Cities campus funding and STEM funding. Western's current FY18 appropriated budget is $127.5 million.

A proposed FY19 capital budget request of $358 million will be reviewed by the board. In addition, $15.6 million in capital renewal funds will be reviewed for classroom modernization and critical deferred maintance needs. The operating and capital budget requests will be presented to the Illinois Board of Higher Education, the General Assembly and Gov. Bruce Rauner. The Board will also review the Fiscal Year 2018 All Funds Budget.

Other items on the Board agenda include purchases over $500,000. The Board will also hear reports on the Office of Sponsored Projects activities, Intercollegiate Athletics, Long-Term Planning and the FY18 Strategic Plan.
