McDaniel Retirement Reception Set for Sept. 22

MACOMB, IL – A retirement reception for Deb McDaniel, office manager in the Western Illinois University Department of Economics and Decision Sciences, will be held from 2-4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22 in Stipes Hall 501.

McDaniel will retire Sept. 30 after 34 years of service to WIU. McDaniel began working at Western in August 1983 as a secretary II in the Office of Financial Aid. In November 1984, she was promoted to secretary III in Human Resources, and in 1985, she transferred to information systems and decision sciences department in the College of Business (now, the WIU College of Business and Technology). McDaniel was reclassified to secretary IV in July 2001, and in April 2010, her title was changed to office support specialist. In August 2010, when CBT was reorganized, McDaniel joined the current WIU Department of Economics and Decision Sciences. She was promoted to office manager in March 2013.

"Debbie McDaniel is a consummate professional," said Tej Kaul, chair of the WIU Department of Economics and Decision Sciences. "Her dedicated service over last three and half decades to the University, college, and the department(s) has been, without a doubt, central to the smooth functioning of the work place. She has earned the respect and admiration of all individuals who came in contact with her during her extraordinary career at WIU. We wish Debbie a happy retirement."

In 2010, McDaniel was named WIU's May Civil Service Employee of the Month. According to her nominators, McDaniel "makes the day much livelier and cheerful."

"The manner in which she handles herself is a testament to her professionalism and integrity. Debbie is very personable, and really is the face of our department," her nominators added.
