MACOMB/MOLINE, IL -- "An investment in knowledge pays the best interest." [Benjamin Franklin]. New and returning students, faculty and staff are readying to invest in their knowledge at Western Illinois University as the 2017-2018 academic year gets underway at 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21.

Residence hall move-in at Western Illinois University is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Friday-Saturday, Aug. 18-19. New freshman and transfer students will move in Friday, Aug. 18. Returning students can move into their residence halls Aug. 18-20. Complete move-in information can be found at http://tinyurl.com/ycmy5ge9.

On Aug. 18, the New Student Convocation will be held for students and their families at 5:30 p.m. in Western Hall. The program, which includes remarks by President Jack Thomas and other University officials, serves as the University's welcome to new students and introduces the University's faculty and staff, its academic mission and student services. An all-campus picnic on the mall near the Student Recreation Center will immediately follow. "Rocky After Dark: First Night Fun," a free event for students, will begin at 8:30 p.m. on Hanson Field.

"We are excited to welcome everyone to Western Illinois University," said President Jack Thomas. "The people of this University make it a world-class institution of higher learning. From the faculty to the staff to the administration, we are here to provide our students with an outstanding academic experience, both in and out of the classroom."

The Student Activities Fair for students to learn about more than 250 student organizations, departments, volunteer opportunities, campus resources and community services and products will be held from 3-5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30 in the campus mall area outside of the University Union.

A wide variety of information to acquaint students with the campus, offices, services and recreational opportunities is available at wiu.edu/welcome.
