MACOMB, IL – Services for retired Western Illinois University associate professor of music Robert Sibbing, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 6 at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Sibbing, 88, passed away at July 2 in Macomb.

Sibbing joined the WIU music faculty in 1968, teaching saxophone and jazz. During his tenure, he wrote and published original compositions. As a member of a chamber quintet at WIU, Sibbing took part in the World Saxophone Congress in Toronto in 1972 and the Robert Sibbing Saxophone Quintet also performed at the world congress in France in 1974.

He also taught music at Quincy public schools. As a member of the U.S. Army, he served occupied Germany and played in the 28th Army Band. Sibbing received his master's and bachelor's degrees from the University of Iowa and his doctorate from the University of Illinois.

After his retirement, Sibbing continued to be active playing music in community bands and wind ensembles. He is survived by three sons, Scott, Eric and Paul; five grandchildren, one great-grandson; and one brother.
