Montalvo Named COEHS Assistant Dean of Educator Preparation

MACOMB, IL – Interim Chair of the Western Illinois University Department of Educational Studies Greg Montalvo has been named the assistant dean of educator preparation for the College of Education and Human Services, effective July 1.

Montalvo has served as interim chair of educational studies since February 2016. He joined the faculty at Western as an assistant professor in 1998, later becoming a professor.

During his time at WIU, Montalvo has published multiple refereed articles and has presented at regional, national and international conferences. He has assisted with the implementation and report writing for multiple school and program evaluations and has served as the assessment coordinator for the educator preparation programs. Montalvo currently is a member of the executive committee of the National Rural Education Association.

"I look forward to working with Dr. Montalvo as he leads our Educator Preparation programs through the CAEP accreditation process and beyond," said Smith.

Montalvo earned his doctorate in instructional psychology and technology and his M.Ed. in educational psychology from the University of Oklahoma. He received his B.S. in vocational education from Southern Illinois University – Carbondale.
