Morales, Peters Honored for WIU Intramural Participation

MACOMB, IL – At the end of the Spring 2017 semester, Western Illinois University junior mathematics major Jerry Morales of Chicago was presented the 2016-17 John Nickelson Award and senior communication sciences and disorders major Karley Peters of Mendon, IL, has been presented with 2016-17 Tammy McGovern Award.

The Nickelson Award is given to the WIU intramural sports male participant of the year and the McGovern Award is given to the WIU intramural sports female participant of the year.

The award recipients are chosen by the WIU intramural staff and recognize outstanding leadership, achievement and community building. According to research, participation in intramural sports contributes to higher grade point averages among students, as well as increased retention of students by higher education institution
