Des Moines Native Named President of SGA at WIU-QC

MOLINE, IL - - Michael Cortez, a graduate student at Western Illinois University-Quad Cities, has been elected president of the Student Government Association (SGA). Cortez, of Des Moines (IA), is a first-year graduate student in museum studies. He is a graduate of Grand View University (2015) and Valley High School (2011).

Cortez was elected by the student body at WIU-QC in April. He previously served the SGA as a senator for GEMS, the Graduate Experience in Museum Studies student organization. As president, Cortez will give a speech welcoming students at the beginning of the fall semester, and he will oversee continuation of Casino Night and other events. The WIU-QC Student Government Association provides students with a voice in governance and a forum to express opinions and the wishes of the student body to University administrators and staff.
