MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - - Julie McLaughlin, a Western Illinois University-Quad Cities student from East Moline, IL, was recently named the WIU Student Employee of the Year.

McLaughlin is the first student worker from the Quad Cities campus to receive the award. She received the recognition during a National Student Employment Week Reception held April 12 at Western Illinois University in Macomb.

McLaughlin, a senior accounting major, works as an accounting assistant for the WIU School of Engineering and Quad Cities Manufacturing Lab (QCML). She was nominated for the award by her supervisor in the School of Engineering, which is part of the College of Business and Technology (CBT). McLaughlin has worked for the CBT since Fall 2015.

Each spring, the National Student Employment Association (NSEA) coordinates a selection process and chooses the National Student Employee of the Year (SEOTY) to recognize the outstanding contributions and achievements of students who work while attending college. McLaughlin will now be eligible to be recognized at the national level of NSEA's competition, which includes a $1,000 cash award.

"Julie was nominated because she's a high achiever who is dedicated to her work as well as to her studies," said William Pratt, director/professor of WIU Engineering. "We're excited to see her be recognized, and also to highlight the achievements that student workers bring to our campuses all year long, balancing their academic responsibilities with duties at University student-worker positions, which help them with college costs. Julie represents our students well."
