WIU Broadcasting Students Win Nine State Awards

MACOMB, IL - Students in the Western Illinois University Department of Broadcasting and Journalism brought home nine awards over the weekend in the Students of Illinois News Broadcasters Association (SINBA) competition in Urbana, IL.

This year's first place award winners were:

WIUTV3 NEWS3 - Outstanding Television Newscast

WIUTV3 NEWS3 - Outstanding Hard Television Program

WIUTV3 – "Local Sports Focus" - Outstanding Sports Television Program

Danny Frey, senior broadcasting major from Springfield, IL - Outstanding Television Sports Reporting

Frey - Outstanding Radio Sports Play-by-Play


Second place awards went to:

Breanna Descourouez, WIUM and a senior broadcasting major from East Moline, IL - Outstanding Radio Newscast

WIUTV3 NEWS3 - Outstanding Soft Television Program

Ryan Mumma, WIUS and a junior broadcasting major from Wilmington, IL - Outstanding Soft Radio Program

Megan Sanchez, a senior broadcasting major from Bettendorf, IA - Outstanding Television News Reporting

In addition to the awards, WIU senior broadcasting majors Emily Manley of Highland, IL, and Redrick Terry, of Rock Island, IL, were awarded INBA scholarships.
