WIU Office of Student Activities Hosts Leadership Awards Ceremony

MACOMB, IL - The Western Illinois University Office of Student Activities (OSA) hosted the 2016-17 Student Leadership Awards Ceremony Monday, April 17.

Through these awards, the OSA acknowledges outstanding student leaders and organizations from across campus who have exemplified what it means to be a leader and a Leatherneck.

Individual Awards (listed by student's county and hometown):

COOK

Evergreen Park:
Gordon A. Taylor Student Leadership Award: Brenna Smith, a senior communication major.

Oak Forest:
W. Garry Johnson Award for Excellence in Student Governance: Rebecca Probasco, a senior communication major.

Streamwood:
Student Government Association New Senator of the Year: Stiles Brda, a senior law enforcement and justice administration major.

KANE:

Carpentersville:
Outstanding Executive Board Member in an Organization: Brandon Santana, a senior media and instructional technology major.

St. Charles:
William E. Brattain Award: William (Wil) Gradle, a senior economics major.

MADISON

Troy:
Ralph H. Wagoner Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service on Behalf of WIU: Summer Tracy, a senior special education major.


MCDONOUGH

Macomb:
Gordon A. Taylor Student Leadership Award: Courtney Powelson, a senior family and consumer sciences major.

Ronald D. Gierhan Award for Outstanding Quiet Influence by an Individual; Student Government Association Cabinet Member of the Year: Grant Reed, a sophomore agriculture major from Macomb.

The Jeffery Waisganis Emerging Student Leader Award: Connor Shinberger, a junior health services management major.

Outstanding Student Organization Advisers: Jill Bisbee, supervision field specialist, Educational Studies; and Roberta Di Carmine, associate professor, English.

PEORIA

Edelstein:
Gordon A. Taylor Student Leadership Award: Kirsten Kessling, a senior agriculture major.

Peoria:
Gordon A. Taylor Student Leadership Award: Aaron Carr, a senior communication major.

ST. CLAIR:

Fairview Heights:
W. Garry Johnson Award for Excellence in Student Governance; Student Government Association Senator of the Year: John Kennealy, a senior computer science major.

WILL/DUPAGE:

Bolingbrook:
Gordon A. Taylor Student Leadership Award: Hayley Salata, a senior health services management major.

Homer Glen:
W. Garry Johnson Award for Excellence in Student Governance: Dovile Svirupskaite, a senior law enforcement and justice administration major.


GROUP AWARDS:

Outstanding Multicultural Program: Paralympic Athletes (University Union Board, Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Administration, Department of Kinesiologyt, Disability Resource Center, Students for Universal Inclusion and Pi Kappa Phi)
