MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois University Staff Clerk Cheryl Rossio, of the office of University Advising and Academic Services, has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for April.

Rossio was hired as a secretary II in the WIU Infant/Preschool Center in August 2000. A few weeks later, she was promoted to secretary III in Extended Learning. In July 2001, she was allocated to chief clerk in the same office. In February 2017, Rossio was reclassified to staff clerk in the Technology Enhanced Learning Office.

In April 2009, Rossio transferred to the office of University Advising and Academic Services, the position she currently holds.

According to one of Rossio's nominators she made herself available to be the "go to" person for the Google migration and was incredibly helpful.

"She is very well respected and appreciated employee for all of her hard work and dedication to the office and the people we serve," said one of her nominators. "She is extremely efficient at her job, maintains records and keeps everyone informed about incoming students. She makes everyone feel welcome and open to ask for support or help."

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Connie Lincoln at CM-Lincoln@wiu.edu.
