MACOMB, IL – A group of 19 Western Illinois University students volunteered their time for an alternative type of Spring Break in Louisville, KY, this year.

The group of students spent their days volunteering at local organizations, and each student volunteered over 40 hours within the week. Organizations that benefited from the help by WIU students include The Lord's Kitchen soup kitchen; Catholic Charities; Habitat for Humanity; the Cabbage Patch after school program and Home of the Innocents, a youth services and foster care agency.

"I learned how to help people in different ways, how good it feels, and how it really goes a long way," said volunteer Sarah Radtke, a junior law enforcement major. "We were also able to get a lot of meaningful information about the organizations, and how they support those in need around Louisville."

The students paid for their trip by conducting various campus fundraisers.
