VPAS Interviews Scheduled

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Four candidates for the Western Illinois University vice president of administrative services (VPAS) position will be on WIU's campuses for interviews Wednesday-Thursday, March 22-23; Monday-Tuesday, March 27-28; Wednesday-Thursday, March 29-30; and Thursday-Friday, April 6-7.

Matt Bierman, interim vice president of administrative services and WIU budget director, will interview March 22-23. Open sessions will be held from 3:10-4 p.m. March 22 in the University Union Lincoln Room on the Macomb campus, and from 11-11:50 a.m. March 23 in Riverfront Hall 103/104 on the WIU-Quad Cities campus. Leslie Anderson, accounting manager at Allsteel, Inc. in Muscatine, IA, will interview March 27-28. Open sessions will be held from 3:10-4 p.m. March 27 in the University Union Sandburg Lounge on the Macomb campus, and from 2-2:50 p.m. March 28 in Riverfront Hall 103/104 on the WIU-Quad Cities campus. Thomas Saban, vice president of finance and treasurer for Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, will interview March 29-30. Open sessions will be held from 1-1:50 p.m. March 29 in the Union Sandburg Lounge and from 11-11:50 a.m. March 30 in Quad Cities Riverfront Hall 111 on the WIU-Quad Cities campus. Anthony Roan, associate vice president for financial management at Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, MN, will interview April 6-7. Open sessions will be held from 2-2:50 p.m. April 6 in the Union Sandburg Lounge and from 1-1:50 p.m. April 7 in Riverfront Hall 103/104 on the WIU-Quad Cities campus.

Bierman has served as the interim vice president of administrative services at WIU since Jan. 1, 2016, and has served as budget director since April 2012. In addition to serving as budget director, Bierman has led WIU's Business Services since 2014. He served as the interim budget director from July 2011 to April 2012. Previously, Bierman had served as the director of residential facilities from 2006-2012. He also oversaw all facilities-related issues for University Housing and Dining Services (UHDS). Bierman also served as the assistant director of residential facilities and administration at WIU (2003-2006); St. Louis Rams Summer Training Camp Coordinator at WIU (1999-2004); complex director at Western (1999-2003) and assistant residence hall director at Ball State University (1997-1999). He received his bachelor's degree from WIU, a master's degree in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education from Ball State University and a Master of Business Administration from Western.

Anderson has served as accounting manager at Allsteel, Inc. since August 2016. Previously, she was the Chief Financial Officer and vice president for finance and administration at Upper Iowa University in Fayette from July 2014-August 2016. Anderson also served in a variety of roles at Black Hawk College in Moline from 2007-2014, including Chief Financial Officer and vice president for finance and board treasurer (March 2010-July 2014), interim vice president for finance and board treasurer (August 2009-March 2010), director of accounting services (January 2008-August 2009) and manager of accounting services (March 2007-January 2008). Anderson has also worked as a controller for H&R Accounts in Moline (2006-2007), senior business analyst at John Deere Insurance (2004-2006), senior accountant with Eagle Food Centers (2001-2014) and staff accountant for McGladrey & Pullen (2000-2001). She received her associate degree from Black Hawk College, a bachelor's degree from WIU and a Master of Business Administration from Western.

Saban has served as the vice president of finance and treasurer for Prairie State College since February 2014. He has also served as a member of the board of directors for National American University Holdings, Inc. in Rapid City, SD since November 2009 and as the supervisor of Argus Event Services in Denver, CO since August 2011. Previously, he was the vice president of administration and finance and CEO of Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Parker, CO (November 2008-November 2011). Saban was the vice president for finance and administration and Chief Financial Officer for Texas A & M University in Kingsville (September 2007-November 2008); the associate vice president for planning, budgets and research at St. Petersburg (FL) College (October 2002-September 2007); vice president for administration and finance and CFO at Worcester (MA) State College (September 1996-October 2002); vice president for administration and finance and CFO at Chadron (NE) State College (July 1990-September 1996); controller at Ohio Wesleyan University (August 1986-July 1990); director of finance for Global Homes, Inc.; system coordinator for The Charter Co.; financial analyst for Burroughs Corp.; senior management analyst for University of Miami; and staff accountant at S+E Shipping Corp. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Wyoming, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Miami; and a Ph.D. from Barry University, Miami Shores, FL.

Roan served as associate vice president for financial management at Metropolitan State University from 2015-2016. Previously, he was the executive director of business operations at City College of Chicago, Malcolm X College, from 2014-2015. Roan has also served as controller of Aspira Inc. of Illinois (2012-2013); accounting manager for Safer Foundation of Chicago (2007-2011); senior accountant at Akzo Nobel Polymer Chemicals LLC of Chicago (2006-2007); senior accountant for Shorebank International of Chicago (2004-2005); senior accountant for La Petite Academy (2002-2003); accountant for Ingredion (2000-2002); and staff consultant for Jefferson Wells International (1999-2000). He served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1993-2001. He has a bachelor's degree and master's degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Master of Business Administration from Governor's State University.

The vice president of administrative services, who serves as the treasurer to the Board of Trustees, is the University's chief administrative, business and financial officer. The VPAS is the spokesperson and liaison on financial matters to various state and federal agencies, and to the many external publics the University serves. The VPAS provides direction and leadership for the delivery of University-wide services in the areas of Business Services; Document and Publication Services; Facilities Management; Human Resources; Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board Executive Institute and Media Resource Center; Public Safety; Purchasing; and Risk Management and Emergency Preparedness. The VPAS also oversees the insurance and state-mandated ethics programs, provides University coordination with legal counsel and serves as administrative liaison to the Council of Administrative Personnel and the Civil Service Employees Council.
