MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University's Tanner Hall will sponsor its annual St Baldrick's fundraising event for childhood cancer from noon-3 p.m. Sunday, March 26 in Tanner Circle.

This year's event has a fundraising goal of $15,000. Last year's event raised more than $11,000.

Participants can either shave their heads, volunteer time or donate to give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity that funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any other organization, except the U.S. government. Local hair stylists also donate their time to do the shaving.

Hundreds of individuals donated their time, fundraising abilities and willingness to "go bald" to help the national organization that raises awareness and funds to help cure kids' cancer.

Every two minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer worldwide. Since 2000, St. Baldrick's Foundation volunteers nationwide have organized more than 11,000 events, shaving nearly 552,000 heads and raising more than $200 million for life-saving childhood cancer research.
