Floyd to Deliver Annual Wayne N. Thompson Lecture March 27

MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Department of Communication will host its 25th annual Wayne N. Thompson Lecture from 5-6:30 p.m. Monday, March 27 in Horrabin Hall, room one. The lecture will be video conferenced to the WIU-QC campus in Riverfront Hall, rooms 103 and 104.

University of Arizona Communication Professor Kory Floyd has been chosen as this year's lecturer, delivering "The Importance of Being Prosocial." The presentation explains the connection between interpersonal communication and the health of individuals and relationships.

As part of his research, Floyd focuses on the communication of affection in close relationships and its effects on stress and physiological functioning. He has written 15 books and more than 100 scientific papers and book chapters on the topics of affection, emotion, family communication, nonverbal behavior and health.

Floyd is a past editor of "Communication Monographs" and former editor of the "Journal of Family Communication." His work has been recognized with awards from the National Communication Association and from the International Association for Relationship Research.

The Wayne N. Thompson Lecture is named to honor WIU alumnus Wayne Thompson, who was a former professor of speech communication. An endowment in his name helps sponsor a number of department programs to enhance learning and scholarship in the field of communication, including this lecture by a prominent scholar in the field.
