MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University School of Music will host a fundraising concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall in an effort to make Western an All-Steinway School.

The designation is a symbol of excellence that means the school will use Steinway pianos exclusively. The company began the concept about 20 years ago.

"Steinway pianos are a symbol of musical excellence and are a smart investment; Steinway pianos increase in value and tone quality as they age," said WIU School of Music Director Tammie Walker. "Close to 200 institutions are designated 'All-Steinway Schools," and the WIU School of Music would like to be added to this prestigious national roster as a demonstration of our commitment to our talented students and pursuit of artistic perfection."

The fundraising concert will feature performances by Walker and WIU music faculty: Associate Professor Jeff Brown; Professor Michael Stryker; Faculty Assistant Minjung Seo; Faculty Assistant Po-Chuan Chiang; Faculty Assistant Liang-yu Wang, all on the piano; Professor Moises Molina and WIU freshman music major Kosuke Uchikawa, of Japan, both on the cello; and Professor Randall Faust on horn.

The concert is open free to the public. Pledge cards will be available for those wishing to contribute toward the fundraiser.

For more information about the concert, contact the WIU School of Music at (309) 298-1544.
