MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University Quad Cities is hosting "Math on the Mississippi," an educational program for Summer 2017. The program will be held July 10-14 and is open to students in grades 5-8.

"Math on the Mississippi" is a fun and interactive weeklong summer enrichment camp. Students will be presented with new concepts and ideas that will expand their education in a fun and exciting way.

Each morning students will begin their day with brainteasers or an outing in the local area. In addition to using the University's 3-D printing lab and Global Positioning System (GPS) resources, students create a blog of the day, which details what they have learned that day.

The topics the program covers include buoyancy, pressure, mapping/measurement and force/structure.

Participants will be able to socialize with professors of the math and physics departments and ask questions about the fields they are interested in.

Registration: Enrollment is limited; the program accepts only 24 participants. Students are admitted on a first-come, first-serve basis. The registration fee is $275 and includes classroom instruction, supplies, lunch and field trips. A $100 deposit is due with your registration. The balance of $175 is due by June 9.
