International Education Week at WIU Nov. 7-18

MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois University will celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide through International Education Week (IEW) Nov. 8-17, with a series of activities planned.

This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education is part of the effort to promote programs designed to prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences.

IEW has been celebrated at Western for several years.

This year's schedule includes:

Monday, Nov. 7, 5 p.m., Stipes Hall, 121 – "Empowering Youth through International Education: A Peace Corps Fellow will share his experience in Morocco

Tuesday, Nov. 8, 12:30-1:30 p.m. – Cultural Café on South Korea, University Union Heritage Room

Wednesday, Nov. 9, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. – Rocky Goes Abroad Table Fair, University Union Concourse

- 3-4 p.m. – French Conversation Hour, Morgan Hall, 303

Thursday, Nov. 10, 4-5:30 p.m. – Acirema Cultural Simulation, Sherman Hall, third floor auditorium. The simulation allows a look at the challenges international students face in applying to a U.S. institution. Email CIS-Activities@wiu.edu to register.

- 6 p.m. – African Heritage Night, Multicultural Center

Friday, Nov. 11, 6 p.m. – International Game Night, Horrabin Hall 1, co-sponsored by the International Friendship Club - games and snacks will be provided

Saturday, Nov. 12, 11 a.m. – Indoor World Cup Soccer Tournament, Donald S. Spencer Student Recreation Center – Register online or at the recreation center

- 6:30 p.m. – A Taste of India dinner, presented by Phi Beta Delta at the Campus Students for Christ House – Tickets are available in advance at Citizens Bank or in Memorial Hall, 347, for $12 for adults and $7 for students. Tickets at the door are $15 for adults and $10 for students. Children under 12 will be admitted free.

Tuesday, Nov. 15, 12:30 p.m. – Cultural Connections: Music and World Celebrations, Multicultural Center activities room

- 7 p.m. – Black and Gold film screening, Morgan Hall, 109 – The film focuses on coffee production and trade out of Ethiopia. A discussion will be held following the showing.

Wednesday, Nov. 16, 3-4 p.m. – French Conversation Hour, Morgan Hall, 303
