Annual Stuff the Bus Event Nov. 9

MACOMB, IL – The ninth annual "Helping Hands Across America Stuff the Bus 2016" food drive will be held from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9 on the Western Illinois University campus and in the community.

The event is sponsored by Sodexo Dining Services, Go West Transit, NTN Bower and McDonough District Hospital.

Donation collection points will be set up at the entrances of the Macomb Walmart, Hy-Vee, County Market and Jackson Street Market stores, and on the WIU campus on Sherman Circle. Jackson Street Market will have "Helping Hands Bags" of food for sale, or monetary donations can be made.

The hours for the collection points are:

• Walmart: 7 a.m.-8 p.m.
• Hy-Vee: 7 a.m.-8 p.m.
• County Market: 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
• Sherman Circle: 7 a.m.-5 p.m.
• Jackson Street Market: 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Donation boxes will also be set up in several academic buildings on the WIU campus.

Since 2008, the local food drive has collected more than 100,000 pounds of food, which is given to local food pantries. This year's collection will benefit Loaves and Fishes Etc., the RA Council Salvation Army Thanksgiving Dinner and the Western Illinois Regional Council Community Action Agency.
