MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois University Office Manager Karla White, of the department of music, has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for October.

White was hired in September 2004 as a secretary III extra help in the special education office. She was hired full-time in that office in November 2004, and was promoted to secretary IV/office support specialist in Educational Leadership in September 2005. In July 2012, White was promoted to office manager in the WIU Department of Music, and she was reclassified as office administrator in the same office in February 2013.

According to White's nominator, she consistently shares her positive attitude with students in the department.

"She has positively changed the demeanor in the entire department not only because the office has transformed, but because colleagues outside the office are constantly talking about how wonderful she is," said her nominator. "She not only seeks to perform assigned tasks in a timely and professional manner, but finds other avenues to move the unit forward and complete tasks before anyone in the office even thinks of it."

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Connie Lincoln at CM-Lincoln@wiu.edu
