MACOMB, IL — Three Western Illinois University traditions are on tap for a September Saturday full of agriculture and family activities and Leatherneck football! The School of Agriculture, University Union Board and Western Illinois Athletics will celebrate the University's traditions of "Agriculture Day" and "Family Day" Saturday, Sept. 10 at the 2016 Western Illinois Football home opener on Hanson Field.

The WIU School of Agriculture and Western Illinois Athletics, in conjunction with the McDonough Farm Bureau and Hancock County Farm Bureau, are sponsoring "Agriculture Day," which will feature free agricultural festivities from noon-3 p.m. just north of Hanson Field (in Q-Lot). The Fighting Leathernecks will kick off the first home football game of the 2016 season at 3 p.m., playing the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks.

Family Day activities are set to begin at 9 a.m. on the WIU-Macomb campus. Information about Family Day events is available at www.wiu.edu/student_services/university_union_board/family_day/events.php. (Note: The Macomb Balloon Rally is also slated for the Sept. 9-10 weekend and is held on Vince Grady Field at Western; more information is available at macombballoonrally.blogspot.com/.)

According to School of Agriculture Director Andy Baker, including "Family Day" in this year's festivities will add to the fun.

"Last year, we collaborated with Athletics on the 'Ag Day' football game, and this year, by including the University Union Board's event, we will make the day even more special for students, their families, alumni and community members, as there will be a plethora of activities for all ages to kick-off the football season. The School of Agriculture takes great pride in working with other University entities to make events like this memorable for everyone!"

Adults, children and FFA and 4H members who pre-order football tickets through the WIU School of Ag online or in the School of Ag office (Knoblauch Hall 145) will receive discounted ticket prices. Adult tickets are $12 each, and each ticket for a child (11 and under) or a 4H or FFA member is $8. Tickets purchased online will be available for pick up on game day at the School of Ag Booth pre-game event area in Q-Lot (sections A and B).

Tickets purchased through the WIU School of Agriculture will support WIU ag student organizations. For a list of ag student organizations, see www.wiu.edu/ag/football.

Ag Day will include a variety of activities, including a "mini" WIU Ag Mech Club Farm Expo (in Q-Lot, sections A and B). The mini "Ag Mech Show" will feature products from agricultural product vendors from across the region.

Vendors can register for a product booth/table online at www.wiu.edu/ag/football/.
