The departments' merger will not affect graduation/program requirements for current engineering technology or instructional design and technology students.
MACOMB/MOLINE, IL — Faculty and staff in the Western Illinois University Department of Engineering Technology (ET) and WIU Department of Instructional Design and Technology (IDT) are pleased to announce their merger into one department as of July 1. The new department will be housed in WIU's College of Business and Technology.

According to Ray Diez, ET department chair, the merger will better serve IDT and ET students by sharing the departments' resources, such as labs and technology tools, as well as strengthening job opportunities for graduates in all sectors of the workforce, including corporate organization, business, K-12 technology integration, higher education, government and non-profit organizations.

"Each of the disciplines will maintain their programmatic structure, discipline focus and identity, but the merger will provide increased opportunities for faculty collaboration in teaching and research initiatives," Diez explained. "The newly formed department is committed to further advancing technology skills offerings, offering more online program opportunities and attracting a wider range of national and international students."

Currently enrolled students will not see their graduation requirements or program of required courses changed. Any changes to curriculum will apply to future students, Diez added.

Current and potential students are encouraged to contact Diez at CR-Diez@wiu.edu or Hoyet Hemphill at HH-Hemphill about any questions or concerns.
