Who We Are:

Janell McGruder. I am a lifelong resident of Macomb, Illinois. I am a mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and a friend. I love to travel, hang with my family and friends, and watch movies. I am a double graduate of WIU '10 (Bachelor's-General Studies) and '14 (Master's-Mental Health Counseling).

Amber Dunn. I am from Chicago, Illinois. I am a mother, wife, sister, aunt, cousin, and a friend. I love to have fun, travel, and spend time with my family and friends. I am a double graduate of WIU '06 (Bachelor's-Business Management) and '09 (Master's-LEJA).

What We Do:

Janell: I am currently the interim director of Health and Counseling and a sexual assault advocate at Knox College. I was an employee of WIU for nine years.

Amber: I am currently an Illinois State Trooper. I was an employee of Western for four years.

Why We Love WIU:

Janell: WIU has assisted me academically, career-wise, and socially. My time at Western has given me the opportunity to create lifelong friendships with a variety of people, the majority I consider family. These friends/family are the reasons why I still live in Macomb and commute to work.

Amber: As a nontraditional student, I thought it would be hard to adapt into a classroom with traditional-age students. The ability of the instructors to integrate various types of students into the classroom experience made the transition easier. The relationships I developed withiInstructors during my academic career continued post-graduation while working at Western.
