MACOMB, IL - The Western Illinois University collegiate chapter of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) recently held a 12-hour "Practice-A-Thon" fundraiser in Browne Hall on the WIU campus.

Participants in the event sought pledges and donations to support their musical efforts throughout the day, with all profits donated to K-6 public school music programs in Macomb.

"Education funding has been cut nationwide, and music programs are among the first to be affected," said Erin Stegall, music teacher at Edison School.

Tammie Walker, interim director of the WIU School of Music and MTNA faculty advisor said the student-initiated event raised nearly $1,500 for Macomb's public school music programs.

"We are so proud of our WIU music students for their creativity, initiative and follow-through with this event," said Walker.

Macomb's music teachers plan on buying classroom instruments with the donated funds.
