MACOMB, IL -- High school seniors from west-central Illinois can put their college career on the fast track beginning this fall through a special program offered at Western Illinois University.

Students from Macomb, West Prairie, Bushnell, Hamilton, Illini West, West Central, United, VIT, Knoxville, Cuba, Lewistown, Astoria, Rushville and Abingdon-Avon high schools who are entering their senior year can now apply for admission at WIU and take classes at Western prior to completing high school, according to Andy Borst, director of undergraduate admissions.

For the 2016-2017 school year, the University will offer an automatic scholarship to the special admit high school students that will cover two-thirds of their tuition. While the special admit program for area high school seniors has been in existence for several years, the program now includes the automatic scholarship and Cost Guarantee lock.

"The other benefit of this program is that students who maintain continuous enrollment will have their tuition, fee, room and board rate locked in at an earlier rate," he explained.

The area high school students and their families can visit WIU from 2-6 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, Thursday, June 2 or Monday, June 6 to learn more about the program, as well as complete an application and register for classes.

"This is a terrific, and an affordable, way for our local high school students to receive college credit and get a jump on their college career," Borst noted. "Western has several courses available online, as well as numerous on campus classes, that will fit into your schedule."

To sign up for one of the visits, register online at wiu.edu/highschool (reservations are not required; walk-ins are welcome). Students must bring a letter of support from their school's guidance counselor or principal, an official transcript with junior year grades completed and an official ACT score.

Students can also contact admissions at (309) 298-3157 [877/PICK-WIU] or admissions@wiu.edu.
