The Koinonia Trio to Perform at WIU Feb. 13

MACOMB, IL – The Koinonia Trio will perform at Western Illinois University at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall. The event is open free to the public.

The trio was formed in Ann Arbor (MI) in September 2015 and is made up of Hye-Jin Cho, piano; Christine Harada Li, violin; and Nathaniel Pierce, violoncello. Cho is from Seoul, South Korea; while Li grew up in Anchorage, Alaska. Pierce grew up in Cottbus, Germany.

Members of the trio have studied at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, University of Michigan School of Music, Ewha Women's University and Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover. Currently, members of the trio are the Artistic Directors of the Anchorage Chamber Music Festival and Education Directors at Innsbrook Institute Summer Music Academy and Festival.

The mission of the Koinonia Trio is closely related to its name, which means communion, joint participation; the share which one has in anything, a gift jointly contributed, a contribution, etc. when translated from Greek.

Since its formation, the trio won the Michigan MTNA Chamber Music Competition and was awarded the University of Michigan Performing Arts EXCELerator Grant Fellowship.
