MACOMB/MOLINE, IL -- Western Illinois University President Jack Thomas announced that Kathy Neumann will remain as interim provost for a two-year period. She was named to the post May 20. A national search for a provost will begin in Fall 2016.

"With the ongoing budget uncertainty and financial challenges facing Western, and to ensure consistency within academic affairs, Dr. Neumann will continue to serve as interim provost through the Spring 2017 semester," Thomas said. "Since assuming the role in May, she has worked tirelessly on critical budget and academic matters while moving academic affairs forward."

Neumann had previously served as dean, and interim dean, of the College of Business and Technology, as well as associate provost. Prior to her appointment as associate provost, she served as the interim associate provost for budget, planning, and personnel.

Neumann joined the WIU faculty in 1995 as an assistant professor in computer science and was named a full professor in August 2004. She was named chair of the computer science department in December 2000 (the department became the School of Computer Sciences in Fall 2010).

Neumann received her bachelor's and master's degrees from WIU, and her Ph.D. from Northwestern University.
