Celebrating Town & Gown and Rocky on Parade Unveiling September 24

MACOMB, IL -- The Western Illinois University and Macomb community event, Celebrating Town & Gown, hosted by WIU President Jack Thomas and Macomb Mayor Mike Inman, will be held Thursday, Sept. 24 at The Forum in downtown Macomb.

Celebrating Town & Gown, which kicks off Western's Homecoming, will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m., with a short program scheduled to begin at 6:15 p.m.

In addition to celebrating the past year's accomplishments, highlighted by WIU President Jack Thomas and Macomb Mayor Mike Inman, WIU Alumni Director Amy Spelman will announce the 2015 Honorary Alumni Award and Town & Gown Award recipients. The Honorary Alumni Award, given annually since 1994, is presented to an individual who is not a WIU graduate but who has provided exceptional service to the WIU community. The Town & Gown Award, given annually since 2007, is presented to an individual who may or may not be a WIU graduate and has provided exceptional service to WIU and the Macomb community.

In addition to the awards presentation, the 23 new Rocky on Parade bulldog statutes will be unveiled at the event. The dogs will be featured in the WIU Homecoming Parade Saturday, Oct. 3 and then placed in their final locations throughout the community and the WIU campus. The first 14 Rocky on Parade sculptures were unveiled for the first time at the 2013 Town & Gown event.
