WIU Constitution Day 2015 Set for Sept. 16; Event to Include WIU Faculty Member Panel Discussion

MACOMB, IL — It was 228 years ago—September 17, 1787—that 39 men signed the United States Constitution, and Western Illinois University will commemorate that auspicious occasion with the University's annual Constitution Day activities from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16.

The theme of this year's Constitution Day event is: "The Constitution and Privacy Rights: Balancing Freedom and Security." The event will feature a poster session (11 a.m.-1 p.m.) and a panel discussion (noon-1 p.m.) in the Leslie F. Malpass Library's Garden Lounge.

This year's panel discussion will feature WIU faculty members from the history; law enforcement and justice administration (LEJA); political science; and women's studies departments.

Western Illinois University Constitution Day 2015 panel discussion members include:

  • Keith Boeckelman (moderator), professor and chair, political science;
  • Tim Roberts (panel member), history professor: "A Brief View of the Long History of American Privacy Law";
  • Aimee Shouse (panel member), women's studies chair, professor: "Women's Bodies: The Shifting Line between Women's Privacy Rights and the Public Interest"; and
  • Jill Myers (panel member), LEJA interim director, professor: "Privacy and Technology: Its Impact on You."

This year's Constitution Day at WIU is co-sponsored by the Centennial Honors College and University Libraries.
