MACOMB, IL -- For several years, Western Illinois University has carried the distinction of being a "Military Friendly School, and to help continue that tradition, the Fighting Leatherneck athletic department has announced it will again partner with the Veteran Tickets Foundation, which provides free tickets to WIU sporting events in 2015-16.

Vet Tix provides free event tickets to current active U.S. military, veterans of military who were honorably discharged and family members of troops killed In action. More than 1.5 million tickets have been given out in all 50 states and Washington D.C. to the military, veterans and their families.

"The athletics department has a proud military connection, dating back to athletic director Rock Hanson and the adoption of the Leatherneck nickname. We are indebted to the members of the armed forces for their unwavering commitment to our country, and providing tickets to Leatherneck athletics events is just a small token of gratitude for their service," said Interim Athletic Director Matt Tanney.

Leatherneck fans can help by donating tickets that may go unused or by purchasing tickets to be donated directly to Vet Tix. Since the foundation is a 501c3 non-profit foundation, individual ticket holders and businesses can receive tax deductions for donating their Western Illinois football and basketball tickets.

Veterans and current serving members of the U.S. military can sign up and request free and discounted tickets to Western Illinois sporting events at VetTix.org.

Fans who have questions about donating tickets can call (309) 298-1190 or click the ‘Donate Tickets' link under Tickets at GoLeathernecks.com.
