MOLINE, IL -- The Moline Foundation has pledged $250,000 to the Western Illinois University-Quad Cities Campus to support enrollment growth in the College of Business and Technology and the School of Engineering.

The gift was announced today at the QC Riverfront campus, with the unveiling of The Moline Foundation classrooms (rooms 2214 and 2216). According to Joe Rives, vice president for Quad Cities and planning, the classrooms are state-of-the-art learning environments, complete with high-end technology and movable furniture.

"I want to thank The Moline Foundation for their continued support of the WIU-Quad Cities Riverfront campus," said WIU President Jack Thomas. "The Moline Foundation's generosity has contributed to the fruition, and the success, of our Quad Cities campus."

Since Fall 2009, WIU-QC undergraduate enrollment in the College of Business and Technology has more than doubled to 546 students. Additionally, during that same period, the School of Engineering has increased from four to 116 students.

"I share President Thomas' sentiments and gratitude. Great universities are associated with great communities. The generous gifts of The Moline Foundation and many others celebrate our shared commitments to the values of Western Illinois University," Rives added.

Founded in 1953, The Moline Foundation has granted more than $28 million to more than 300 nonprofit organizations working in health care, human services, education, community development, arts and culture and scholarship.

"Today celebrates a major step forward in a cooperative journey over the next decade, as we build a university that will provide opportunity to our young people and our employers and improve the overall quality of life in our area," said Steve Kruse, chair of The Moline Foundation.

The Moline Foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of people in western Illinois and eastern Iowa by strengthening communities through local giving, grant making and community service.

"Western Illinois University in the Quad Cities encompasses many of the goals we have set for The Moline Foundation, including education, charitable partnerships, effective use of our riverfront, alliances, business growth and workforce development," noted Joy Boruff, president/CEO of The Moline Foundation. "We are proud to be a partner in educational progress for our region."
