'Calle Murray' Planned at Western Sept. 14

MACOMB, IL – The Casa Latina Cultural Center and numerous Western Illinois University student organizations will host "Calle Muray," the first Latin street food festival from 6-9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14 on West Murray Street, in front of the University Union.

The event, being held to kick off Latino Heritage Month, is being coordinated by the Latin American Student Organization, Tradición Latin Dance Team, International Friendship Club, Spanish Club, Undocumented Students and Allies Coalition, Latinas in Pursuit of Success, Sigma Lambda Gamma, Sigma Lambda Beta, Lambda Theta Phi, Lambda Theta Alpha and Gamma Phi Omega.

The event will include live music, raffles, caricature artists and one free sample of traditional Latin food for all WIU students with a valid student identification card. Additional food can be purchased at the event.

Representatives from all of the offices sponsoring the event will be available to discuss volunteer opportunities available for students.
