MACOMB, IL – In an effort to expand learning opportunities available to students, the WIU Department of Broadcasting and the University's journalism program will merge beginning in Fall 2015.

The new department will be called the WIU Department of Broadcasting and Journalism.

William "Buzz" Hoon, the chair of the WIU Department of Broadcasting, will chair the combined department. Students in the department can earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism or a Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcasting.

"We hope to tell the success stories of each program and help our students understand the connection and overlap in both areas," said Hoon. "We have a wonderful legacy of alumni working in both fields. Our students receive valuable hands-on experience when they arrive at WIU and have made this an award-winning department."

Previously, the broadcasting department was under the umbrella of the WIU College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) and the journalism program was housed in the WIU College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). The newly formed department will be housed mostly on the third floor of Sallee Hall and will be part of COFAC.
