Two Candidates for GBCC Director Invited to Campus

MACOMB, IL – Two candidates for the open position of director of the Western Illinois University Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center will be on campus this week to interview with University officials and meet with students and the community.

Carl Simien, former college and career director of the Umoja Student Development Corporation in Chicago, IL, will be on campus Monday-Tuesday, July 6-7. Richard Brown, a college relations associate and chief diversity recruiter for Triton College in River Grove, IL, will be on campus Tuesday-Wednesday, July 7-8.

Simien will have an open session with students and the community at the WIU Multicultural Center at 12:30 p.m. July 7. Brown will have an open session with students and the community at the WIU Multicultural Center at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 8.

Simien received his bachelor's degree in theology and his master's degree in communication from Valparaiso University in Indiana. He previously served as the director and coordinator of the Umoja Student Development Corporation, as well as program coordinator of the Roberts Family Development Center in California and youth development trainer for WestEd, also in California.

Brown received his bachelor's degree in political science and his master's degree in organization leadership from Lewis University in Romeoville, IL. He also previously served as founder and executive director of Hope for a Better Tomorrow, testing center coordinator for Triton College and program manager and acquisition specialist for Platform Learning.
