Beu Director Candidate Interview May 13

MACOMB, IL -- John W. Smith, interim director of Beu Health Center at Western Illinois University, one of two possible candidates for the director of Beu Health Center position, will interview Wednesday, May 13, according to Jessica Butcher, chair of the search committee.

An open meeting with Smith will be held with the University community from 11:15 a.m.-noon in the University Union Cardinal Oak Room. The complete itinerary and vita can be found at wiu.edu/employment.

Smith was named interim director in January 2015. He previously served as assistant director at Beu since January 2009. Previously, Smith was the compliance specialist in WIU's Office of Sponsored Projects, where he worked to ensure that University-based research met federal guidelines and integrity standards. He has also served as an instructor for WIU's psychology department since 2005. Prior working at WIU, Smith was a grant director at the University of Illinois, Chicago (Peoria, IL).

Smith received his bachelor's degree in psychology from Western and his master's degree in gerontology from Western.

The director of Beu Health Center provides direct supervision for the medical chief of staff, staff physicians, assistant directors and numerous other medical staff. The director is responsible for providing overall supervision and executive management of the health service activities of the Beu Health Center and Western's AOD Resource Center. The director develops and implements goals and objectives to meet the student health needs of the University community; develops strategies and policies needed to meet these goals and objectives; develops, coordinates, and presents the annual budget request for the Center's operation; determines staffing; coordinates and directs the activities of the Center; serves as the privacy officer for the University on issues related to health insurance portability and HIPPA; facilitates the development of quality control and quality assurance mechanisms; maintains a Student Health Advisory Board; develops and maintains a data collection system for describing clinic utilization, conducting quality assurance studies and executing long-range planning and program evaluation; and evaluates all student health operations.
