Sponsors Draft 23 Artists for WIU's Rocky on Parade

MACOMB, IL – Tuesday, April 21 was "Draft Day" at Western Illinois University for the 23 artists selected to create the next collection of Rocky on Parade bulldog statues to be permanently displayed around campus and around Macomb.
The blank bulldogs arrived in Macomb Wednesday, and the artists and sponsors matched Tuesday night will finalize design modifications to the respective dogs. The artists will work on the dogs over the summer, and the finished "Rocky" statues will be unveiled at the annual Town & Gown event Thursday, Sept. 24 at The Forum in downtown Macomb.
The dogs will also be displayed in the WIU Homecoming Parade on Saturday, Oct. 3 and will then be placed at their permanent homes.
This is the second time a collection of "Rocky" statues has been designed and created, with the inaugural collection placed around the community and WIU in 2013. Money raised by the public art program benefits art scholarships at WIU.
The artists and sponsors matched Tuesday include:

2. Sponsor: WIU Foundation - Artist: WIU junior graphic communication student Mariah Bartz, of Macomb – Placed at the University Union.
3. Sponsor: First Bankers Trust Co. – Artist: WIU Faculty Assistant Robert Brownlow – Placed at the bank, 440 N. Lafayette St.
4. Sponsor: John Blauvelt - Artist: WIU Office Manager Deb Lutz – Placed on the south side of Tillman Hall.
5. Sponsor: Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home – Artist: Taralee Morgan, a senior foreign languages major from Bettendorf, IA – Placed at the funeral home, 201 W. Carroll St.
6. Sponsor: Roger Clawson - Artist: Assistant Professor Ian Shelly – Placed at the WIU Quad Cities Campus.
7. Sponsor: Citizens Bank - Artist: WIU Assistant Professor Tammy Honesty – Placed at Citizens Bank Park on the south side of the Macomb square.

The Rocky on Parade program began in 2013 with an idea from WIU Art Professor Bill Howard, who was inspired by successful projects like Cows on Parade in Chicago. The first year, 14 fiberglass Rocky statues were designed and created before being placed at various locations around Macomb.
