University Concert Choir and University Singers to Perform May 2

MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Concert Choir and University Singers will present a program of choral works for organ at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 2 at the First Presbyterian Church, 400 E. Carroll St., in Macomb.

WIU Organ Instructor Linda Andrews, who is also the organist for the First Presbyterian Church, will accompany the choirs.

The concert choir, conducted by WIU Assistant Professor of Choral Music Education Brad Pierson, will perform two works by Estonian composer Arvo Pärt; "Solfeggio" and "Missa Syllabica."

The University Singers, conducted by WIU Director of Choral Activities James Stegall, the 2013 Distinguished Faculty Lecturer at WIU, will perform "Requiem," Op. 9 by French composer Maurice Duruflé. "Requiem" soloists include mezzo-soprano WIU Instructor of Voice and Opera Angela Hand, baritone WIU alumnus and Augustana College Adjunct Professor Saul Nache and cellist Eli Roth, a senior music major from Oro Valley, AZ.

The University Singers have recently returned from an April performance and recruiting tour of Boulder and Denver, CO, where they performed the "Requiem" with the University of Colorado Symphony Orchestra.
