MACOMB, IL – The second annual Rocky 5K Run/Walk at Western Illinois University will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 25 at the WIU Alumni House.

This event is hosted by the Student Alumni Association (SAA) and the Student Alumni Leadership Council (SALC). The race is an extension of the celebration of Purple and Gold Day, which is Friday, April 24 and is occurring across the country and at Western.

Students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to show their Purple and Gold Day Rocky Run pride by wearing the colors or painting themselves (purple and gold) the day of the race (paint will be supplied). Participants who are sporting the colors will earn a chance to win a prize pack and be declared WIU's "Most Devoted Fan." Prizes will also be provided for overall race winners, including male/female top finishers, top finishers in three age groups and walkers.

The race pre-registration fee is $20 per person (participants will receive a t-shirt) or $10 (no t-shirt) and is due by Friday, April 24. To register the day of the event, the cost is $25 (participants will receive a t-shirt) or $15 (no t-shirt).

Race check-in begins at 8 a.m. at the Alumni House. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Colonel Rock Fund. This fund helps support "Rocky," WIU's canine mascot.

Along with the adult run, the event will offer a run for kids, which is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Alumni House. This is for those ages 12 and younger and registration is free. WIU students, staff, faculty, alumni and community members will be in attendance and supporting WIU.
