At the 2015 Thomas E. Helm Undergraduate Research Day, Honors' students' poster presentations are scheduled from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Union Grand Ballroom. Podium presentations will take place from 1-3 p.m. in the Union Fox and Capitol Rooms at the 2015 event.

MACOMB, IL — The Western Illinois University Centennial Honors College's Thomas E. Helm Undergraduate Research Day is set for Wednesday, April 15 in the University Union. The annual event, "a celebration of research, scholarship and creativity," is open free to the public.

The day's events are set to start at 9:30 a.m. with performance presentations in the University Union Brattain Lounge. Poster presentations are scheduled from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Union Grand Ballroom, and podium presentations will take place from 1-3 p.m. in the Union Fox and Capitol Rooms. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in each category. Research abstracts are available at wiu.edu/centennial_honors_college/research_day/researchday.php.

The 2015 keynote speaker is WIU Department of Physics Assistant Professor Ryan Gordon. He will present, "The Importance of Research for Future Success," at 3 p.m. in the Brattain (formerly Prairie) Lounge. Gordon is also an alumnus of Western; he earned his B.S. degrees in physics and in mathematics in 2005.

This year's Thomas E. Helm Undergraduate Research Day will include more than 260 student participants, representing 26 disciplines and all four academic colleges at Western.
