Smith Services Set

MACOMB, IL -- Funeral services for Western Illinois University student Kayla Smith, 22, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 18 at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage. Smith, 22, a junior elementary education major, passed away March 22.

She graduated from West Prairie High School in 2011 and from Carl Sandburg College in 2014. She was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Honor Society.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family of Kayla Mae Smith.

WIU Mourns Student Death

MACOMB, IL -- The Western Illinois University community is saddened to learn of the death of student Kayla M. Smith, a WIU junior from Colchester, who died Monday, March 22 as a result of an automobile accident.

Smith, 22, was pursuing a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She graduated from West Prairie High School in 2011 and from Carl Sandburg College in 2014. She was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Honor Society.

"We extend our sincere condolences to Kayla's family, friends and classmates," said Western Illinois University President Jack Thomas.

University Counseling Center staff are available for students and other members of the University community who wish to seek assistance. Counselors may be reached by calling (309) 298-2453.
