April Observed as Sexual Assault Awareness Month at WIU

MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois University's Interpersonal Violence Prevention Committee (IVPC) has planned a month of events as part of April's observance as Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM).

Events kick off Wednesday, April 1, as the IVPC will provide an informational table about Sexual Assault Awareness Month from 12:30-2 p.m. in the University Union Concourse. The IVPC will also sponsor a film club at 3 p.m. Friday, April 3 in the Women's Center lounge.

Additional events planned throughout April include (All events are sponsored by the IVPC unless otherwise stated):

• Monday, April 6 – How to Help Your Friends and Bystander Intervention, 3:30-5 p.m., Fox Room, University Union

• Tuesday, April 7 - SAAM tabling – 11 a.m.-2 p.m. - Union Concourse

• Wednesday, April 8 - Fifty Shades of Grey Book Club Meeting One – Noon-1 p.m., Women's Center Lounge

• Thursday, April 9 - SAAM Tabling - 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Union Concourse

• Friday, April 10- Film Club – 3 p.m., Women's Center Lounge

• Monday April 13 - Film Club – 3 p.m., Women's Center Lounge

• Tuesday, April 14 - SAAM Tabling – 10 a.m.-noon, Union Concourse

• Tuesday, April 14 - Campus-Community Response to Sexual Assault - Panel discussion with community and University representatives, 7-8:30 p.m. University Union Lamoine Room

• Wednesday, April 15 - Male Survivors and Support - 6-7:30 p.m. - Horrabin Hall 30

• Thursday, April 16 - Know Your IX's, Dana Bolger, 6 p.m., University Union Sandburg Theatre - Sponsored by WIU Department of Women's Studies, the University Theme Committee, the WIU Provost's Office, the Western Organization for Women, the WIU Office of Equal Opportunity and Access, the WIU Department of Sociology and Anthropology, UNITY and Burton Law Office, LLC

• Friday, April 17 - The Clothesline Project – 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Multicultural Center east lawn (Multicultural Center rain site) sponsored by Women's Center, Victim Services and the Feminist Action Alliance

• Monday, April 20 - Safe Space Training -10 a.m.-4 p.m., LGBTQA Resource Center Lounge – Email Zack Neil at ZK-Neil@wiu.edu to attend

• Tuesday, April 21 - SAAM tabling - 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Union Concourse

• Tuesday, April 21 - Film related to Violence Against Trans People - 4:30-6 p.m., LGBTQA Resource Center

• Wednesday, April 22- Fifty Shades of Grey Book Club Meeting Two – Noon-1 p.m. Women's Center Lounge

• Monday, April 27 - India's Daughter - 7-9 p.m., Morgan Hall 109, sponsored by WIU Department of Sociology and Anthropology

• Tuesday, April 28 - Masculinity and Violence Prevention - 7-8:30 p.m., Algonquin Room Union

• Wednesday, April 29 - Film Club – 3 p.m., Women's Center Lounge
