MACOMB, IL – Matthew Housewright, an applications programmer II in Administrative Information Management Systems (AIMS) at Western Illinois University, has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for March.

Housewright was hired as an applications programmer I in AIMS in July 2012. He was reclassified to his current position in January 2014.

According to Housewright's nominators, he has shown great dedication to his job by staying after normal working hours numerous times to ensure tasks are completed.

"He has shown great initiative in attacking assigned tasks, and he garners praise from his co-workers and technology users for his work," his nominators said. "He is developing a reputation for someone who will find a way to get the job done. He was recently tasked with reviewing and upgrading the business office's STARS web screens. He did not simply just 'pretty up' the screens, but he took the time to incorporate new techniques to improve the user friendliness of the screens. He improved the appearance and function for numerous screens."

Housewright also receives frequent compliments about being easy to work with.

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Alisha Barnett at AA-Barnett@wiu.edu.
