MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois University will host its second Dance Marathon from noon-midnight Saturday, March 7 in the University Union Grand Ballroom.

The dance marathon is a year-long campaign that raises money and awareness for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. The end event will consist of participants remaining on their feet for 12 hours in honor of doctors' and nurses' shifts, as well as children who are unable to stand.

The WIU Dance Marathon is specifically raising money for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals of Greater St. Louis. The money raised will be divided between St. Louis Children's Hospital and SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center. If a child from Macomb were to get sick, he or she would most likely receive medical care from one of these hospitals.

Last year's event, the first at WIU, had a goal to raise $12,000 and ultimately raised $22,000. This year's goal is to raise $40,000 with 500 participants.

"I originally got involved with Dance Marathon because it sounded like a good cause and I wanted to be more involved on the campus. But the more I learned about CMN hospitals and the kids we raise money for, I grew to love the event and it is something I am extremely passionate about," said Dance Marathon Leadership Team President Cassidy Pogue, a senior communication sciences and disorders major from Mundelein, IL. "I strive to share that passion with Western's campus and to show them how amazing this cause and event is. We said last year that Dance Marathon would be the next big thing, and the success from last year and extreme support we have gotten this year goes to show how this event will be a positive impact on Western's campus for years to come."
